Smart looking setup dk, bit surprised you're opting for a ground tent next time, what's your reasoning...?

I love my roof tent, mainly for the speed and convenience. It's been fitted on the roof and on the bed too.

I take it you have it on the bed just to practice erecting it before having it on the roof

Thanks fella, Go for it and don't look back

yeah got the wheels and tyres put together as a package and delivered to my work already with the tyres fitted and balanced, tons of places that will do deals which is good as you can get a the best price

I went with steel modular s as I use to use steel mods a lot on Land Rovers and when you bash em up for what ever reason you can just bash em back out with a big hammer and then carry on, you just can't do that with alloys, obviously for my morocco trip I didn't want to take 2 spare wheels just the one with two spare inner tubes so steel mods made sense.

thanks Colin,

I did like my roof tent and it was pretty easy to put up and it was very comfy and would recommend them especially as you don't need to worry about the terrain to make camp even a truck stop on route you can easily make camp compared to a ground tent. Down side is weight the other is once it's up you can't drive anywhere oh and snakes can clime ladders just as easy lol

I had a canopy and a roof tent and the two things that gave me hassle where the roof tent and the canopy, My tent was a lot lighter than some on the market but its still weighs a fair bit and when you drive over rocks or rough terrain it takes its toll on the roof and also when you driving over dunes and can get a bit fruity and I ended up with a lot scratches and dents on my roof where it was jumping about when it came lose on a few occasions, maybe it more of an issue with the roof rack, the other issue is that tent has zero aerodynamic features. The canopy was nice and roomy but it encourages you to take more than you need which I did, the canopy did not like dune jumping at all and I nearly lost it a few times due to the rough terrain. Next time I would like to do a more offroading, I know sometimes there ain't roads but you know what I mean, lighter the better is my think hence going back pick up style with less stuff, I will probably take out the back seat and make more use of that area for storage.

yes mate 2" Lift plus larger tyres 265/75/16, larger tyres are the only way to get diff clearance I could have gone up to 305/75/16 but it meant a bit of modding to the arches which I didn't really want to do plus the rims that where on my 305/75/16 which looked the nuts on my classic the offset stuck out to much on the new shape

305/75/16 on my old classic

I just went with a budget lift @ £199

I would like to do a proper lift this year with 2+ Springs, Shocks, leafs probably import if I can’t get it in the UK, can anyone recommend a UK company for Mitsubishi suspension upgrades? as I would prefer my money staying in the UK if possible.

Did the lift perform OK DK?.......... had much todo on here with many saying the front spacers were dangerous and would cause all sorts of trauma upon our roads........

There seemed fine to me and didn't notice any issues with handling what so ever be it on the motor ways, good roads, bad roads, hardly any tarmac roads, and offroad, sand, dry river beds all good.

Did some high speed stuff on the flats in the deserts with a lot of hard turns and some drifting, handled fine.

The only down sides to the budget lift as far as I can see is the rear shackle alone is ok if you not loaded up to the max, for that you need an extra leaf which is what I ended up doing in Morocco budget style, the other thing is i'm not to keen on in any 4x4 lift is standard shocks so if I was going to stay with the budget lift I would be buying extended shocks.

I only went budget lift because I was spending money like sailor at the time and didn't really want to shell out a grand+ on the suspension, but I will be upgrading to proper lift kit this year.

That was a good read

For a suspension lift you can either go to devon4x4 who can get u a 2" ome kit and they also offer a efs sus lift but stay away from this as the reviews about efs are crap !!! Other option is ironman sus lift from westcoast 4x4

Cheers for that Raj, I think I will take a look at what westcoast have, I have only ever heard good things about Ironman ;)

I reckon im gonna go for the ironman kit as well its also the cheapest kit out of the lot.... devon4x4 quoted me 1300 for the OME kit, The ironman system was around 695+vat both kits included front springs and suspensions, rear leaves and shackles and shocks.
