camber shims fitted

#1 by stormforce , Sat Feb 02, 2013 4:48 pm

fitted.I managed to get the shims done today at last.10mm each side but the n/s looks to still need 2 mm as i ttok 1 shim out from the o/s and 2 from the n/s so wondering if there were 2 already fitted to the o/s aswell and i missed one.
3 bolts came undone ok-ish with a long bar but 1 bolt i had problems with last time i ended up with a lump hammer and cole chisel to smash the shite from it.At least i now can fit another shim easy enough to the n/s.
Also fitted new front shocks while at it.I will get some pics of what it looks like tomorrow

not a clue yet as i haven't put the gauge on it but the drivers side is looking pretty good by eye and the passenger side just tipping in slightly still

It's probably been discussed before, but could you remind me how much actual lift the 15mm ball joint spacer will give, for example? i'd like to do this at some point, combined with the extended shackles on the rear, cheers

I've gone down to just a 5mm spacer which is just a 20mm lift. My drivers side has something not right with it and needed too many shims to bring it right. At the mo it's got 8mm on passenger side with 0.7 camber and 12mm on drivers side with 1.0 camber. I really need to get it sorted properly. Need to take it to a smash repair garage. I got 1.1 camber with 8mm shims with a 10mm spacer at first. (25mm total lift). That's still in the mitzi range tho.

i got 30mm lift and the camber was out a hell of alot.
i had to chisle one of the bolts off as it was totally knackered. It took longer to get that 1 bolt out then it did to actually do the other side.
I got m10 x 100mm bolts but they are too long so i will be replaceing them with slightly bigger but shorter bolts

hello stormforce truck is look very tidy mate got under mine today to have a look at the bolts to see what size nuts where on them the tub is m10/ 17mm socket and the one on the cab are 14mm nuts. just been looking a your gallery and seen the one you have done. when you put yours on Richard there is a rubber mount on the cab 3 on each side. with a bolt either side and one in the middle am i wright in saying you take the 2 bolts out on each side to remove the mount then take the middle 1 out and put your new bolt in and the packer/ spacer

All i did was remove the 1 main bolt.I did the drivers side first and then the passenger side.
To lift the cab i put a bottle jack on the tyre and then lifted the cab just enough to slide the lift blocks in place and then drop the bolts in and then do the same with the opposite side. The put the nuts on and tighten them all up

Stormforce, are you measuring and adjusting your camber yourself? If so, do you have a special device? I really need to check mine, I was going to take it to a garage to get it done, but if its easy to do I might give it a go.

I have got LezT's camber gauge here but i have done it by eye due to my hip playing up so much yesterday. The camber isn't looking to bad and as long as you can undo the bolts for fitting in the shims it is an easy enough job to do.
My front tyres were only touching the road by half the tyre width before i did the camber and now the whole tread is touching and looking straight
