RE: Pea and Ham from a Chicken?

Tonight is the first bump in the road. I took the plunge and cut both the roof and rear section to their final size.

Then matched them up to see the fabrication task that lay ahead. I knew prior to starting that moving the rear so far forward would mean a more complicated fit compared to doing the double cab option. The roof line stays the same width until the rear doors or in my case the start of the second side window.

That was fine I like a challenge the bump in the road came when I realised I don't like it.

Even once it is plated it still visually steals to much from the bed for my liking, add in a couple of roll bars which I will need for picking up lengths of steel and it will look daft.
I will make up a flat rear bulk head and if I like the look of that better I will fit a sliding window or similar to it.

Love you're approach Brian! I was thinking the same thing and - not that I have any of your skill - but I was curious which way you would go. Looking forward to seeing more.

This is why you're doing my bumper for me!

Collected some steel today so hope for some progress over the next week.

I have lots of bolt holes to weld up as I am not refitting the wheel carrier, number plate light or arch extensions. Two repairs needed, not bad for a 20yr old truck that sat idle outside for the past three years.

I reused the center roof brace in the cab and it has added plenty of stiffness.
50mmx25mm box to form inside the bed panels will add strength and give a nice radius to the finished edge. The inside will get an alloy strip finish once the bed is lined.

Brace going in

Fitted and its a good snug fit.

That looks awesome, Brian

(and I like the "Land Rover Recovery Vehicle" sticker even in it's current guise, that probably still holds true!)

Thanks Skot

Got the bed edged with 50x25mm box, it has worked perfectly I can stand on the edges and they don't flex.
Ran the plasma round a 2mm sheet to get the roof profile.

No it will be a street queen, with the odd rubbish dump run and steel pick up run.
It wont see m ch use but it will be handy to have for the above. It will be in the lakes and maybe Wales later in the year for some green lanes, so mild off road you could say.

All those tacs and the close of the cab will be fully seam welded then dressed filled and made read for respray.
I will have hours of welding and dressing to look forward too.
