I'd put it at tdc before you start. That way if anything moves or changes you have got a starting point to put everything back to.

OMG.......i only moved it about 3mm and gave it a try, it fired straight into life...............and no smoke out the back at all ! i let it tick over for a while and then give it some high revs and a bit of smoke came out the back for a bit and then died away back to no smoke at all. The EML came on when i gave it a bit of stick but i am just over the moon that it fired up and ran. I think the eml is related to the boost sensor that may be duff.

I got it up to temp and let it tick over for about 20 mins and all seems well apart from a small seep of coolant coming out of the thermostat housing.

So all in a good result.

Cheers lads.... it still needs a few things doing but at least i am over the hard bit as in the motor runs. I will still need to set the pump timing properly and sort out the lack of boost but that seems a doddle compared to what i have already done.

A good point to sit back, crack a tin open and reflect on what you've had to do, and more important what you and the truck will be doing

Now the engine is on the mend i have set about the niggly things and first on the list was to find the source of the dreaded 4wd flashy light problem, so first port of call was the rubber hoses which seemed ok. Then was the actuator shaft....which doesnt seem to want to move at all.How easy should it be to move this ? by hand ? or by mole grips ? or what..

This actuator shaft seems to be siezed and (cue the porn music ) no matter how much lube and tugging i do i cant get the shaft to slide in or out....
