Doing a 2.5" bodylift

#1 by stormforce , Tue May 15, 2012 8:46 pm

I will update this thread as i go along and also ad pictures.

I am fitting a 2.5" body lift so this is what i have done. This will be the same for any size body lift on the tub
Tools required.
19mm,17mm spanners and deep sockets,Ratchet and extension bars,Bottle jack and block of 3" x 2" wood
Lube up all 14 body mounts well in advance.
I have lifted the tub section today by
1/ Slacken off the 6 body mounts so the nuts are still just caught.
2/ I used a bottle jack and block of wood on the n/s tyre and lifted the tub till just before it catches the nuts and then take the nuts off.
3/ Continue jacking the tub enough to just slide the new lift blocks in place
4/ Push up the first of the 3 M12 bolts and then screw the nuts on enough so the bolt stays in place.
5/ Do the same with the other 2 mounts on the n/s and the nuts and bolts
6/ Repeat this proccess on the drivers side but leave nuts and bolts loose.
7/ Once jack is lowered tighten up nuts and bolts all round and then double check each one before finishing.
I will add some pictures of this section tomorrow.

no need for a 2 post lift.I had the truck on the ground and used a bottle jack on some concrete blocks and a bit of wood between the jack and body

I removed the old ones first as my lift was a 2.5".If it was a 2" i would of just left the old ones there tbh.The 2 mounts at the rear of the cab were absolute sods to get out as they were bonded in place.Ther o/s one i was able to cut flush but the n/s one was even worse and took ages to remove as it had to come out completely as when i cut it it wasn't straight.I kept all the old big washers so the new blocks were able to actually sit on top of them.

Solved the problem with the gear selector by cutting a part of the centre consol out.All gears are working fine now

I am fitting a 2.5" body lift so this is what i have done. This will be the same for any size body lift on the tub
Tools required.
19mm,17mm 14mm spanners and deep sockets,Ratchet and extension bars,Bottle jack and block of 3" x 2" wood
4/ Push up the first of the 4 M12 bolts and then screw the nuts on enough so the bolt stays in place.

Bodylift on the cab
1/Loosen the steering column on the spline on the p/s box.
2/Remove both sections of the centre consol.
3/Undo all 8 body mounts but leave the nuts on the n/s 1 on front of chasis,1 in the front foot wells and 2 by the rear seats.
4/Using a couple of 6"blocks and bottle jack with a piece of 3x2 on top jack up the off side till there is enough room for new spacers to slide in.
5/Remove old mounting blocks or you can leave in for an extra bit of lift and then slide on new spacers.
6/Put in the new M10 bolts and fit nuts just to grip so bolts don't lift out when doing the near side.
7/Repeat no's 4,5 and 6 for the near side.
8/Once all 8 mounts are in place and the nut on then go round and tighten all bolts.(I rechecked them again a 2nd time)
9/Tighten the bolt on the steering column.
10/Make up bumper relocation brackets to lift the bumper back into place.(i have yet to do this)
11/You will need to do either one of the following, extend the gear shift levers, trim out the transmission tunnel or like i have done trim the centre consol so the gear levers are able to engage each gear properly.
12/Make sure all nuts and bolts are tight and away you go.

If i have forgotten anything then ask and i will let you know what i did.
Pics to follow of before and after.Suspension lift to follow

Nice one Rich , I look forward to seeing it all done
I would like a good look at how you've overcome the gear selction issues as I've not got my head around how to do this yet. Did you have to remove the rad cowling and did you have to lengthen or adjust any pipes etc? also has trimming the center console added more noise inside the cab when driving?also do we now have a definitive size/length for the bolts that you used(including the front ones).and lastly, what colour hoses did you go for?
cheers
Kurt

Kurt i did remove the rad shroud as it was just catching on the tip of the fan blades. If i could of got in there enough o would of got away with bending the shroud to clear the blades.
I will get a pic of the consol trimmed for you.
I was able to re-use the original from bolts but you could get new ones of the same length or just a fraction longer if you want. All other.I did get slightly longer bolts than stated as i have a bigger lift but the sizes quoted should be fine.
The main gaiter is still in place over the transmission tunnel and that wasn't touched so there's no more noise in thab than before.
I have the red see through brake lines from Xpajun. The guy said i will have them for the w/end but they arrived yesterday so a 24 hour delivery and i was well happy with the service from them.I had a good chat with the guy there aswell about the balljoint spacers and he says there shouldn't be any problem by fitting them as some of the Paj owners have them fitted

Loving the foot well full of tools! Good work Rich. Nice to see how you did it all. What's the total lift going to be when all is said and done?

I will probably set the shackles on 3" so that with the 2.5" plus 1" of tyre lift it will be 6.5" total lift.
I would of started on the suspension but the weather is shite at the moment
