reasons are
1 less wear and tear on front shafts 2 cv joins and 3 gaitors
4 you can use the low box in 2wd
there is a how to in the how too section too

Well dove the truck after putting it all back together and ni speedo out comes the center dash and clocks and it appears the plastic spline has snapped off bollox so now I am a atemping to glue it back on who knows if it will work doubtful but gotta be worth a try I know the speedo cables are expensive

Bugger, good luck with the glue mate. Can you not hold the cable in place with cable ties holding it up to the clocks? One round the cable and two on opposite sides up to the clocks.

Isn't it the type that comes through a hole in the metalwork behind the speedo clocks? If so then why not try putting some hose around the outer cable ( hose sliced lengthways of course so will wrap round cable ) then cable tied to it. You can then make the hose butt up to the hole and the speedo head when screwed in should hold the whole lot in place.

Find a donor and go and remove it yourself to be sure it's not been ripped off

It just has a plastic end on the actual cable and it don't screw in place it merely pushes on if the glue don't hold I will re think it

stick an old sat nav in front of the speedo bit (silicone is useful) and use that instead
