Yes mate, I read it as load the engine and it'll run cooler......... which is the opposite of what it was...

the findings I`ve had have been on long hills where as revs fall, and therefore engine load increases, to change down puts less load (still loaded , just less) as there are more revs and back into the power band?

That'll be the trick of it Mr Bas,
Low rev ,low load = low EGT's,
Low rev, high load = high EGT's
High revs, high load = lower EGT's
