What set ups you both running? Any engine mods? Breathing or cooling?

Basil will be pleased to hear this. There seems to be zero difference between yours pre turbo an his after the turbo.

Oh btw, which reading is correct then? it doesn`t sound like you need to add 100`c tonka?

I got a bit confused there too Geof. It seems as though the turbo is not causing ANY heat loss. The pre turbo readings are what it important though.

Engine - I've got a deal sorted out with my local mechanic a new engine at cost price. He's doing me a favour so to be honest at the price it's hard to turn down. Not sure when it's going to be done though. Soonish I hope. Soon as it's back up and running I'll be fitting the EGt gauge and water injection.

Mods that are relevant are, removed EGR, lifted wastegate actuator using washers so now at 0.9 bar max boost (above this is bad I'm told), the 2 or 3 screw adjustments made on the fuel pump so increased fueling. Thats about it engine wise. Larger tyres are making the engine work harder I guess.
With regard to it making a difference in temps, i just read in a few places that it did with regard to fitting EGTs, and taking the drop into account. It just sounds right that it should tho, because its a large bit of metal, that has cooling oil, and water going through it to cool it. In cooling it, it removes heat from the exhaust gas. Also, it takes energy from the exhaust gas, pressure wise, to spin the spool, so the exhaust pressure drops across the turbo. This makes it cooler. This is why you have to run an intercooler on the other side, compressing the inlet air heats it up, and thats bad for combustion. Simple thermodynamic theory, but in real life, it may be a bit different. Im no expert but after asking the Renault F1 guys here, they agree that EGTs do drop across a turbo. Circumstances just dictate how much by.

Agree with everything you said Tonka. Just noticed that the difference seems to be negligible. I'll have a gauge on soon enough anyway so we'll have more data to add to the knowledge base.

Are you close to the Renault F1 HQ or something?

I work for Red Bull F1 and I look after the KERS system on Caterhams F1 car. I was on the RBR race team for the last two years, before that.

I picked the 'Frenchies' minds whilst we were in Valencia!

Just got back today!
