RE: Alan G's truck

We don't have any of that kind of measuring kit at work, main dealers are forced to have it on their tool boards but at a small independent garage like ours it's down to what the owner thinks we need (which is not much).

For that reason I'm leaning towards buying a built short motor or getting it re-worked at a machine shop.

Another concern I have is balance shaft bearings because I've heard stories of them seizing up and chucking the belt off.

2005 Animal - Moonshine Black with Mitsi hard top, rebuilt engine, EGR & CAT removed.

Most problems can be repaired but will the end result be worth the effort and expense?

I dont have them either so using mk1 eyeball & rule etc. The balance shaft bearings look ok to change once the crank is out.

TBH Al their all getting that way now, nothing difficult just more time.

You might remember my pal that came to the quarry with the 05 plate black and silver one, his wasn't much better, and I was going to change the front panel on it before the head gasket went which was the straw that broke the camels back.

I shall describe the pics to you cheffy
it's of a classic L200 with the engine removed ......... the front tyres have deliberately been let down in order to lower the front so the engine hoist doesn't have to go as high to get the engine out

top work Alan

Didn't make it the day Alan. Was out with the missus. Looks like you've got a fair bit cracked.

Well engine out & totally stripped so I can reuse the con rods. Front end stripped ready to be cut & welded. It will take time but I will get there. Also looks like the fuel pump has been leaking at the front seal & has been damaging the balance belt. I will post pic later as I'm just home.

Not going to rush it. I have the use of my dads car anyway so no need to rush the job.

What, so then you'd have to buy a new truck? Imagine the struggle .... what to choose? V8, straight 6 or even a flat 6 or v10......v12 is too daft although I saw a db9 this afternoon...now there's a motor

I'm not keen on that flaky front panel Alan, don't want to check mine in case it looks the same!

Any chance you could post some pics of the stripped out engine bits, interesting to see how knackered the binned bits are and how good the re-used/donor bits are.
