5 shiny new cooper discoverer stt 265x75x16 arrived at my work yesterday for me now tucked up nice and warm in my garage - fitting will occur saturday - one of which will be going on my "new" spare alloy so that it can be rotated into the tyre changes to ensure even wear across all the tyres - fitting will also be accompanied by allignment camber and tracking checks.

Tomorrow however, I will be visiting a local fabricators who have offered me a reasonable rate for the construction of my rear winch bumper - asssumming i can see some examples of good quality work i should be home tomorrow with an estimated completion date

Remember not much is adjustable on an L200 initally, its only really the tracking (toe in/out) The camber can be sorted but shimming is required and not many places will do trial and error on this when on an alignment machine,

Considered it basil and for the moment I want to prove the basic design - I can have the swing carrier post fabricated in at a later date - I want to physically see the thing on the motor to establish exactly how much space I'll have to mess with - also haven't had the opportunity to look at how I would mount and secure the lock mechanism - presume i could just steal the locking system off a surf. in fact nicking the whole swing arm might be an idea - I'll talk to the guys today and find out if making a swing arm Socket might be a better idea than a protruding post - in which case it may come with the socket.

I've also been thinkng about what effect moving the spare back another 2 and a half feet plus adding what is bound to be another 70kg of bumper and winch would have to the back of the motor? - i may go for mounting the spare in the front of the tub instead.....

cheers

Malky

tbh all i think is that the extra weight on the rear will help with grip etc as its so light at the moment. It should be ok with the Surf mounts fitted i should think but you will need to cut the inside skin of the tailgate to fit the reinforced plate on the inside, but you would have to do that anyway on which ever design you have to lock onto the tailgate. You know what the extra length will be like by owning a surf.I may still have a swing out carrier here somewhere but not the tailgate mounted part though it locks onto.Free and just cover p&p

latest update :

tyres fitted - tracking was a mile out been resolved at fitting but told to be cautious of the amount of weight over the front as it may push the tracking out again so i will keep an eye on it.

pic below of truck with its new boots on and its little stable mate.....

The maximum load on the front axle is 1200 kg, if you got the possibility to check.

But looks awesome, nearly as awesome as mine

Jeez been a while since i looked in on this thread - danne been way to busy at work to put the truck on the weigh bridge totally wen tout of my head - I'll try and do it tomorriow if its not crazy busy

I got an e-mail from the fabricators looking at my rear bunmper and they have advised they have cut all of the components out of plate from the drawings i supplied.....hope they were accurate - shoud be fine double double double checked and then checked again before i handed them over and they have confirmed minor adjustments and corrections at test fitting will be free.

So, if they have cut it today - i suspect i will be seeing a test fitting next week i'm soooo excited.......

cheers

Test fitting today - now you have to understand that this bumper has been made off of a set of drawings I put together not engineering drawings I might add, so up in inverness and my tow bar assembly has all been removed the bumper was offered up it fits like a glove and follows the line of the rear quarter perfectly exactly as planned - the fabricator is a genius - no other word for him he's absolutley brilliant, recons finished painted product complete with removable hitch and clevis shackles will be available next friday.

to say I am keen to get this onto the motor is an understatement - I now need to remain calm and not go and buy another winch before christmas.......

Cheers
