Phew... Just been to the garage and they've stripped the engine down ton the block and it's well and truly expired (to keep the french down), bent valves, stuck in head, smashed rockers and and broken cam shaft. The good news is that there is no reason for the engine to be responsible, whiche means it's down to a faulty cam belt. Therefore the parts manufacturer is liable to build me a brand new top end . They have insisted that all the failed components are sent to them for analysis but the garage are on my side and the new parts are order and truck should be back on the road for the end of the week.

Great to hear a positive outcome for a change.
I just wonder if there is a whole batch of faulty belts out there. After market Gates belts are hard to beat.

Thanks all, i've been fortunate that my garage has been on my side but at the same time they can't believe a belt has failed. They can find no other explanation, the engine is/was healthy and there was no warning of the failure. The manufacturers have asked to know if the truck is off roaded.... I've told then that I do infrequent mild green lanes as a family hobby with my two year old son.
The belt was a genuine Mitsi belt, but I'd imagine it was manufactured by Gates. I guess we'll know if we find a string of new memebrs asking about cam belt faliures.

So I got the call today from the garage and the truck is fixed. I asked for a list of the parts it's had but they said they haven't listed them all yet.... basic idea is though that the heads been reworked, new valves, rockers, exhaust cam, gaskets and new cam kit including tensioners, balance belt and shaft.

So with a freshly re-built top end the truck has been running nice for a week or so. I've figured out my broken cb was actually a broken aerial wire near the mag mount so i've replaced the mag mount with a snail mount attached to the roll bar (although i'm not 100% happy with though and i might switch to something mounted to the back of the cab). With everything working well I needed to get muddy so went for a days laning with some guys from Staffs4x4 and Crewe 4x4 fuddy muckers in Shropshire.
The lanes, views and company was all great. Took in most of the popular lanes and river crossing between Shrewsbury, Craven arms and Bridgenorth including Long Myndd, Cwms Lane, Hungerford steps, Peckledy Ford and Steps and then the last one near Burwarton. The last lane however got us all stuck... 8 trucks 1km lane and just over 2hours to get out with a mixture of driveing, towing, digging and winching. Four of us got out forwards and four of us backwards.
My bash plate is a little bent from one of the rock steps on Hungerford Steps and my rockslider on the drivers sid is now touching the cab and vibrates at certain rpm. I guess that got bent when i was draged over the tree roots that extended through the ruts on the last lane. Unfortunately I was dragged by a Defender but I'm not embarassed as he winched over it and had to winch me over it also.
I need to clean the truck soon as I haven't yet and it currently look like this...

Glad they saved your sill and door pal. If you have bent an outrigger and not the chassis wall or just split a weld on the chassis, give me a shout and I will send you down a replacement outrigger.

Yes they definitely saved my sill. I need to wash the mud off to check what's damaged. I'm expecting a broken weld but it's not moved far, just far enough to make an audible vibration at certain rpms

After much debate I decided that I was going to go for it and fit a lift kit to the truck so I ordered a kit from Genius-JDM, the same kit as Animal has just fitted, 2 inch spacers for the front and extended shackles for the rear. At the same time i bought some new poly bushes to fit witht he rear shackles, although the rubber ones already fitted were in good condition. the whole kit looked well made and it was pretty straight forward to fit, i'd pre loaded all the nuts and bolts with wd40 so as to make sure everything came loose nice and easy. So here are the results...

Yess... truck passed the mot today with flying colours.
Also found some interesting info about the cam belt failure a few months back. Turns out the parts supplier was Milners 4th and they supplied all the parts to repair it foc. Respect to them for footing that bill and supplying the bits to get my truck fixed. Also the labour bill alone was £600.
