Over that last week or so I've been doing a bit of a make over on my roller shutter and bars. I'm not much of a fan of shiney things so I never liked the chrome that the roll bar came in. During my half hour lunch breaks while the weather has been good i decided it was time to rub it all down primer it and then coat it with some satin black metal paint. Hopefully it should now be durable and easily repaired.

I've also done a little bit of dressing with some patterned Duck tape. I've got one little job left with the make over which is to make some new spacers for the LED lights, i've got myself a couple of off cuts of nylon bar that i am going to use. Hopefully I should get time to do this tomorrow.

I also ordered some new back lit rocker switches yesterday for my lights. These ones

Hopefully they will arrive soon so I can change all my odd switches.

Over the weekend I've managed to pretty much finish off the makeover of the roller cover and roll bars, just need some decent length cable ties to tidy up the wiring for the lights and the cb aerial that needs to be attached to the inside of the bars.

The last job was to make up some spacers for the light bar, I ordered an offcut of 45mm dia nylon bar stock and cut it down, using a holesaw I shaped the bottom to sit on the bar and then covered them, the results:

And my new switches turned up, I'll have to break out the dremel and get these fitted soon:

Next on the list is a laning day on Saturday around Sherwood forest.

So I've got round to fitting my switches, I just need to find a feed for the side lights so that I can back light them when I turn the lights on.

My next project is to make a spare wheel mount over the bed. I've picked up a back door mount off a shogun to use and mocked it up today.

On Monday I'm off to get some box to get the job done.

My rear UJ has been a little noisey for a little while sometimes worse than other times but mostly quiet and only a little vibration between 70-75.

Anyway prop off this morning and this is what I found...

One cup broken with no bearings left in it. It's obviously been rattling around in there for a while by the state of the trunnion considering this is a case hardened bearing surface.

Job all went great and it's now got a nice fresh rear UJ.

Lucky it didn't explode everywhere whilst driving. That would have sucked. Good when a job goes easy.

Yeah that's what I said, for the noise it's been making I was surprised how bad it was...

Had a cracking day out on the lanes in the Peak district again yesterday, weather was great so lots of driving but few photo opportunities.

A few snaps from one of my favourite lanes in, Two Dales. Its a really tight and washed out rock crawl up the hill with lots of lean and axle twisters, changes every time you do it to...

Yeah it works as I wanted it too, just little things that I can see that I would do different now i have the finished article in front of me. I got rid of the spare under the truck shortly after my first outing on the lanes as I noticed I was ploughing some of the deep rutted lanes with it. I sold the actual mount to fund the materials to make this one...

Not really done much to the truck for a while now other that driving it, took it on a few laning days. One cracking day round oldham leading into Holmfirth area and been out in the Peaks again over Christmas.

I have struggle as I'm considering moving on from L200 ownership, but I also do really like the truck. I also obtained some half finished front an rear winch plates that would help make some nice additions to the truck. The rear one is to be mounted between the chassis rails with the fairlead behind the rear plate and the front is a simple plate at the moment ready for me to build a bumper around, Im struggling making up my mind what type of bumper to make, these are my options:

or

Both i am confident I can make, both i like... or do i sell and buy a jeep.... opinions?

I like the Xrox if you could get them here that's what I would have. But if you in two minds with getting another 4x4 is it worth spending money on something your potentially going to sell on.

Insa Ranger AT tyres - Snorkel - K&N panel filter - BRC diff breather kit - Bull bar with 20" LED bar - roof mounted 40" LED bar - LED tray lights - Roller top - Wind deflectors - Reversing sensors and camera - EGR mod - next?

I am torn, as the big reason I would sell would be to downgrade (in terms of value) so as to get the missus and the kids a better car and get myself something worth less to sink in a big muddy puddle and scratch on the lanes. I was all for the tube version until I saw the plate one over crimbo on FB. If I went for the tube version then I'd be then up for doing a rear 1/4 chop like this...
