Changed rocker gasket and replaced all the vacuum lines to get rid of that pesky 4x4 flashing light. Finally got rid of it and engine light popped up. No boost. Actuator arm not moving once engine started. Lots of swearing and scratching of head to follow.
Checked vac pipe from actuator, all fine but replaced anyway and blew out the metal pipes ontop of rocker. Sorted, turbo back in action.
First time ever since ive owned it there is no lights on the dash.
Winning...until next week when something else breaks

Fitted tracked FrontRunner Slimline roofrack (Drilling 8 holes in roof - 2 ended up rivnuts) Cursing and swearing to align it. Changed timing belt - and just in time, it was starting to thread a bit. Drive home from the workshop, felt a bit perkier too. Found long sharp scratches along the drivers doors when I got back to vehicle. Annoyed, but will try a t-cut tomorrow. Tomorrow is also wiring to the roofrack, and putting the sound matting in then screwing allllllllll the trim back in, to only remove bits next weekend when I do the doors - audio, soundproofing tinting (rear only)

Poop. Day 2 of solo roof rack install. Waiting for some paint to dry. So much for the 5000 other things to do. Tomorrow evening I will be cutting the bolts down so they won’t be going through the headlining. Least it’s not a sunny drive home tonight.

Refitted the towbar to the old girl after a lot of cursing and hammering , must of got a recovery strap caught on the tail end of the chassis at some point up the 4x4 track and bent it ☹️, bit of hammering and it's all sorted . Pig of a job with a bad back trying to balance it on a jack and line it all up

I fitted a new Pioneer stereo on Monday night, as the old Sony one had died. I inherited it out of a car at work, so it didn't owe me much, and was an unknown age etc. But did what it needed to. New one thrown in nice and easy, even easier as I could recycle the old microphone for the BT system which saved faffing about up the a pillar and under the dash. Day after, wifey is complaining that the new stereo is shit and unusable, keeps going mad scrolling around and generally being a twat. Ordered a new one as I figured it must be faulty. Yesterday, I thought I'd have a quick look at the back of it to check connections were all in soundly etc. Then I noticed that the new microphone it came with had a 2.5mm plug on it, whereas the old one had a 3.5mm. At this point, I realised I'd put the old mic into the new cars remote port. Silly boy. New mic fitted and all is well.
Also did some pikey sound deadening with a few rolls of lead flashing tape. Say what you will about this, but for less than a tenner the stereo sounds better, less rattling and buzzing, generally a lot heftier feeling. Only done the two front doors, will do the bulkhead, floor and rear doors at some point, but well worth it in terms of cost/time.
Next job is fitting the decat pipe - is there anything in the way of that like the undertray? Borrowing a mate's impact gun which normally sees service on Volvo construction machines, so should be strong enough. New pipe comes with new nuts/bolts/gaskets so hopefully a reasonably quick job.

Bought some MK1 Ford Ka boot struts to replace the shot ones on my canopy during the week. They arrived today so ran out to try them. About 10mm too long and 150N too strong but can get away with 1 instead of using both. Quite happy with my first job on the truck 👍🏻 Tomorrow is full oil change: engine, gearbox, transfer box, and diffs. Got my fingers crossed the plugs come out easy and I don’t find any nasty surprises on my first proper venture underneath!

Never gave much thought to that 🤔 my big worry was breaking the glass or snapping the hinge with the force of the struts. The canopy is a bit of a shed at the moment: the lock is completely seized and only 1 of the latches catch when the door is closed. Also leaks water in through the side windows like it’s got no seals at all haha. Jobs for another day/year...

problem with all long side windows is the flex, also when I bought my longbed, one of the first jobs was taking the windows and frames out to reseal them.

Monday saw the battery warning light on, baterry showing 11.8 v with engine running. Had a quick look and figured the alternator is on its way out. Got a new one on reserve at Euro Car Parts. Having had a better look in the daylight, the bolt running through the tensioner has sheared off, so the alternator is fine. Great. Start to pull it out hear the "you forgot to disconnect the battery" audible warning from the fuse box.
Twat. One new M8 bolt, and a new main fuse, total cost of £4.80 and saving over expected of £145. I'm happy with that.

Don't worry about the main fuse, even some of the old salts forget that one! It's that time of year expect the battery to start having a tantrum too.

Started putting all the new gubbins on the engine yesterday to get some more power. I thought whilst it’s all in bits il swap the glow plugs. Nice and simple. Only gone and stripped the threads on cylinder 5. I had to just leave it and go have a cup of T while the temper settled.

Managed to tap it out further so got 6mm of thread in. It’s nipped in tight. If it blows then il have to helicoil. Or put spare engine no2 in.

Spent money. Just ordered mesh grille uppers and some 10cm wheel flares. Last server cage job, I ended up with some pressed side panels from the kit, and and working out what to do with em, there's enough material to replace the glass in the canopy sides, and/or side of the bed storage.
