So engine valeting is actually pretty cheap it turns out. Well, a basic clean is. A show room clean is another thing. £50-£60 will get you a chemical wash and brush and a steam clean. Also a lot of these guys are mobile. I had planned to get it done after I get the truck back but I'm now waiting to hear back from a couple of companies who can hopefully go down and spruce it up while its out of the truck.

Diesel hunk o' junk go bye bye!

Engine and box are out. Few more ancillery bits and bobs for him to pull out. He's going to give the bay a good clean to remove the grease, road grime and oil. He's confirmed he will be using the Pajero box. The relevant parts from the Lexus box have been swapped over. He's also confirmed that the prop shaft and gearbox cross member will need modifying. But we pretty much knew that anyway. The Pajero box is 8" longer than my manual one was. And the bumper is out for galvanising as you can see.

So the fun begins then. It will be interesting to see how the professionals tackle some of the jobs. I've come across and how they mount some of the hard wear. Don't know if the gearbox mount and cross member off my auto box will fit it. If you want it you can have it just pay postage ..

I'm going to assume your cross member won't work because your truck didn't originally have an Aisin A3040 series box did it? Am I right in thinking it had the 'other' smaller auto box?

What ECU and TCU systems have you gone with?

Spitronics Mercury 2 chief. It was the unit Sunderland recommended. Turns out to be very popular in the 1UZ community. Custom built for the 1UZ. Mercury 2 is the latest version.

It's an a L200 with no engine. What were you hoping for? Admittedly, he probably could have used a flash.

No updates since the last one as work has stalled due to flooding. They're not as bad as some locations but they do have 4" of water in the workshop. He reckons it will take a couple of days to clear once the onslaught stops. Which is the big Unknown.

Looks like a good job I didn't ask him to fit a Hemmi!

Did anyone else notice my engine any is actually blue?

Oh really? That's cool. What have you bought so far. You need to add prop shafts to the list. I'll add it to the guide thread.

So far got the motor; my Mrs is going to South Africa at the end of the month so she is going to pick up the ECU and TCU direct from Spitronics. Will get the fuel pump next month as well.

When do Sunderland expect to have your truck completed?

This month I guess. They're technically only just over a week into it.

Sounds good, it's exciting when you start buying stuff in. Did you get just the motor or a full package on a palet?

I bought the motor from a guy that does banger racing; he uses the LS400 shell because it is so strong but does not want the motors because they are too sophisticated. He replaces the 1UZ motor with an old Ford Granada V6. So I got the motor and gearbox with all ancillaries.

That's the same guy I got mine from. Jason isn't it? Have you tracked down a gearbox yet? The 43's are rarer than the 40's and usually sell for more too. There's loads of 40's on eBay at any given time.

Can't remember his name; he is down in Portsmouth... The guy I got it from was also had an Escort Mexico that he is busy restoring.
Will probably get the gearbox just before I arrange for the transplant to be done. Seriously running out of storage space in my garage.

If you can find room it might pay off to keep your eye out for one. The preferred 43 doesn't come up often.

Loom wiring and ECU's are all complete now. This will be tucked up behind the dash. Props need to be finished. Light bar still to do. Bumper is sandblasted and got delivered to galvanisers today. That got delayed due to flooding. He's now got to load the maps get it running and make sure everything is at it should be. They're really closing in now. I have a soft completion date of end of next week if nothing is delayed.
